Will Roberson overcame first half foul trouble to score 19 points in the second half and lead the Muskegon Community College men’s basketball team to a 90-78 victory Saturday over Henry Ford Community College on its home court.
The Jayhawks, coming off exam week, fell behind early but managed to gain a 45-39 lead at halftime. Eddie Tornes scored 17 points in the first half while Aaron Sydnor added 11.
MCC turned up its defensive heat in the second half, holding Henry Ford to 36 percent shooting from the field and no 3-pointers. The Jayhawks benefitted by outscoring the visitors 22-11 from the free throw line.
Tornes finished with 29 points, Roberson had 26 while Sydnor totaled 17 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.
“This was a good win for us,” said MCC Coach Dave Schlump. “Our guys were itching to go and were excited to come out against a good Eastern Conference opponent. Didn’t think we played well in the first half but we showed some toughness and answered the bell by defending much better in the second half. Pleased with the win.”
