The Muskegon Community College women’s basketball team improved its record to 7-1 on the season with a pair of recent victories over Henry Ford Community College and Delta College.

The Jayhawks downed Henry Ford 83-64. They trailed by four points at halftime but exploded in the second half to seal the victory. MCC had a huge advantage on the boards, outrebounding their opponents 60-33.

Francesca Cerniglia led the way with 22 points and 10 rebounds while Danielle Jones added 17 points. Morgan Giddings had a great all-around game with nine points, nine assists, eight rebounds and five steals while Taylor Brown added nine assists.

The Jayhawks followed that victory with a 76-63 win over Delta on Tuesday.

MCC pulled away with the help of 51 percent shooting from the floor and a 60-35 rebounding advantage.

Abby Rodriguez led the way with 13 points and five assists. Cerniglia had 12 points and seven rebounds, Kaylie Caverly totaled 12 points and eight rebounds, Jones contributed 17 rebounds and three blocks while Giddings had eight rebounds and nine assists.

The Jayhawks will compete in the Lake Holiday Classic tournament in Mattoon, Illinois Dec. 28-30.
