Montague’s Merritt Hamann pumped in 21 points, including three 3-pointers, as the Wildcats downed Fremont 70-56 Monday in non-league basketball action.

Merritt also had eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals.

Josh Weesies and Jacob Buchberger were also major contributors for the Wildcats. Weesies collected 21 points, seven rebounds and two blocks while Buchberger had 18 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and two steals.

Montague improved to 4-1.

Mason County Central 37, Cadillac 36 – The Spartans pulled out the victory with a late bucket from Sean Kelley. Drew Griffis had 11 points and seven rebounds while Johnny Shafer grabbed 12 rebounds for the winners.

Shelby 53, Ludington 40 – The Tigers outscored the Orioles in three out of four quarters to seal the win. Jeffery Beckman led Shelby with 21 points and Caleb Anderson added 16. Cameron Bundstra had 12 points for Ludington.

Grand River Preparatory 66, Muskegon Catholic Central 56  The Crusaders were unable to recover after falling behind 16-6 after one quarter. Lamar Jordan III led MCC with 13 points while Christian Martinez added nine.  Grand River Prep’s Shahadah Camp had a game-high 23 points.
