The Muskegon Big Reds didn’t let Grand Rapids Union hang around too long on Tuesday night in boys basketball action.

Muskegon raced to a 19-7 lead after the first quarter and increased it to 20 points by the half. When it was over, the Big Reds had an impressive 79-40 victory over Union.

Deyonta Davis turned in a triple-double for the Big Reds with 15 points, 16 rebounds and 12 blocked shots. Leading the scoring was Daryl Kirkland with 19 points and Ja’marie Collins with 18 points.  Joeviar Kennedy finished with nine points and 10 rebounds.

Union was led by Curtis Davison with 13 points.

Kenowa Hills 53, Mona Shores 44 – The Sailors were able to outscore Kennowa Hills 22-12 in the fourth quarter, but it just wasn’t enough to complete the comeback. Mona Shores was led by Tyler Trovinger  with 12 points. D’Quintaye Ross and Kobe Burse each had 10 points. The Sailors fall to 3-7.

Spring Lake 68, Tri County 65 – The Lakers held off a hot-shooting Tri-County team that hit 11 shots from beyond the 3-point line. Keegan George led the Lakers with 30 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, and three blocks. Zach Montgomery added 14 points for the Lakers. The Lakers improve to 8-2 on the season.

Whitehall 50, Fruitport 32 – The Vikings outscored the Trojans 28-12 in the middle two quarters to capture the nonleague victory. Noah Trombley led Whitehall with 17 points. John Spolford had six rebounds and C.J. Watson had five assists. Nathan Kriger led Fruitport with seven points. Zac Miller pulled down 11 rebounds.

Grant 47, Ravenna 29 – The Tigers went on a 13-0 third quarter run and led 33-23 after three quarters.  Mason Powell led the Tigers with 13 points while Riley Patterson added 12.  The Bulldogs were led by Connor Beahan with 10 points in a losing effort.

Grand Rapids Covenant Christian 58, Kent City 49 – The second quarter did in the Eagles. Kent City fell behind 17-2 in the quarter and were unable to come back. They did cut the deficit to four points in the second half before falling. The Eagles were led by Nick Alt with 24 points and four assists. Randy Thompson also had 11 points and five rebounds. Kent City drops to 6-5.

Hesperia 69, Walkerville 62 – Hesperia was able to get their second win in as many nights thanks to some balanced scoring. The Panthers were led by Jake Palmer and Nate McKeown with 18 points each. Adrian Castillo and Traxton Gordon added 14 points each for the Panthers. Walkerville was led by Trent Spear with 23 points along with Carson Chase with 13 points, and Carl Tanner with 12 points. Walkerville drops to 0-8. Hesperia improves to 4-6.
