The Fruitport Calvary girls basketball team knows if it wants to be the best, it has to beat the best.

The Eagles played state-ranked Holland Black River on the road on Monday and came away with an impressive 61-54 victory.

“I feel good about how our girls came out prepared,” said Fruitport Calvary coach Brad Richards, whose team improved to 5-1 on the season. “The girls communicated with each other on the floor. I saw a lot of character tonight and I am real pleased with the victory.”

Taylor Richards led the Eagles with 31 points and 21 rebounds while Allyson Richards added 16 points and 16 rebounds.

Allyson Richards had a memorable night, eclipsing the 750-career point mark.

Reeths-Puffer 72, Muskegon Heights 23 – The Rockets jumped out to a 48-8 halftime lead.  Brooke Larabee led the Rockets with 26 points and 10 rebounds while Delaney Bolles and Elysia Mattos added 13 points each. Frendreka Watkins-Oliver paced the Tigers with 11 points.

Grand River Prep 67, Muskegon Catholic 33 – Grand Rapids Prep’s Mariah McCully had 32 points, nine rebounds, three assists and five steals in the drubbing. Muskegon Catholic fell behind 19-5 after one quarter and couldn’t recover. Zhane Harris led the Crusaders with 10 points.
