The Muskegon Catholic boys basketball team jumped out to a 13-point lead then withstood a Fremont comeback to claim a 62-59 victory Friday in Lakes 8 Conference action.

Fremont roared back by scoring 42 points in the second half, but it wasn’t quite enough to close the gap.

“MCC just came into our gym and outworked us, plain and simple,” said Fremont Coach Peter Zerfas.  “In the first half they got into the paint at will, making 11 shots on lay-ups and short jump shots. When they missed they rebounded the ball and put it back in.”

Erik VanFossen led the Crusaders with 17 points, Christian Martinez added 11 points while Nate Jones and Lamar Jordan III each tossed in 10.

Cam Crosley and Osvald Trenholm scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Fremont.
