The Mason County Central boys basketball team used a big fourth quarter to defeat Holton 51-42 in its Class C district opener at Hesperia High School.

The Spartans led 22-17 at halftime and 33-30 after three quarters, before sealing the victory with an 18-12 edge in the fourth.

Colton Tyndall led the Spartans with 15 points and seven rebounds while Nate Strejcek added eight points.

Kevin Slowik led the Red Devils with 15 points while Aaron Poling had 11,

Mason County Central will face Shelby in the Class C district semifinals on Wednesday.

Class A

Grand Rapids Union 83, Fruitport 36 – The visiting Trojans were overcome by a Grand Rapids Union 38-6 run in the second quarter. Union will face Grand Haven in Class A district semifinals on Wednesday.

Class C
(at Hesperia)

Hesperia 72, Hart 50 – The Panthers led Hart 33-28 at halftime then pulled away in the second half. Traxton Gordon led the Panthers with 24 points while Jake Plummer had 17. Matt Wilson led the Pirates with 14 points. Hesperia will face Montague in the district semifinals on Wednesday.

Class C
(at Kent City)

Muskegon Heights 115, Holland Black River 21 – The Tigers led 40-4 after the first quarter and went on to ring up a rare triple-digit performance. Muskegon Heights had seven players score in double figures. Deandre Wilson led the Tigers with 19 points and 10 rebounds while Antwan Jones put up 18 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Muskegon Heights will face Kent City in the Class C district semifinals.

North Muskegon 63, Ravenna 39 – The Norsemen sealed the victory with a 24-10 fourth quarter run.  Erick Bleakley led the Norsemen with 23 points and five assists while Marco Visconti had 16 points and seven rebounds. The Bulldogs were led by Connor Beahan and Austin Sied with 11 points each. North Muskegon will face Western Michigan Christian on Wednesday in Class C semifinals.

Class D
(at Fruitport Calvary Christian)

Muskegon Catholic 55, Kent City Algoma Christian 40 – The Crusaders trailed by three after one quarter, then took control by outscoring Algoma Christian 14-5 in the second quarter and 15-8 in the third. Nate Jones had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Crusaders. Muskegon Catholic will face West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science in a district semifinal on Wednesday.

Class B
(at Fremont)

Grant 33, Sparta 32 – The Tigers were down 27-24 after the third quarter then rallied to get the win. Riley Patterson led Grant with eight points while Roberto Echavarria had seven. Grant will face Tri-County in Class B district semifinals on Wednesday.
