The Shelby boys basketball team will test that theory Wednesday when they play Laingsburg for a Class C regional title after falling short of that goal the past two years.
The Tigers earned a berth with an exciting 45-43 victory over host Beal City on Monday in the first round of regionals.
Shelby fell behind 12-8 after the first quarter but took a 22-21 halftime lead.
The Tigers defense held Beal City to two third quarter points and Shelby led 32-23 at the third buzzer.
Caleb Anderson led the Tigers with 15 points. Jeffrey Beckman had 12 points, 10 rebounds, and five blocks.
“It was a tough, physical game,” said Shelby coach Rick Zoulek. “The kids did a good job keeping their composure during some tough breaks during the game.”
