Pitcher Logan Vallie struck out five and earned the complete-game victory lsj-fb-logoas the Mona Shores baseball team downed Grand Rapids West Catholic 6-1 Friday in non-league action.

The Sailors improved to 5-3 on the season.

Elijah Wilson, Tyler Trovinger, Mason Nordgen, Hunter Broersma and Noah Dykstra each posted hits for Mona Shores.

Lakes 8

Spring Lake 14-4, Fremont 5-4 – The Lakers and Packers split a doubleheader in Lakes 8 Conference play. In Game 1, Spring Lake pitcher Dave Gnegy collected the win, striking out six in five innings of work. Tyler Murak and Kyle Zietlow each had two hits and scored three runs, while Nathan Betts had two hits and scored once. In Game 2, Fremont pitcher Christian Ward was outstanding, throwing 5 1/3 innings and striking out seven. Murak had two hits while Zietlow had one for the Lakers.

O-K Black

Kenowa Hills 11, Reeths-Puffer 1Collin Houseman knocked in the Rockets’ only run with an RBI single, and also had a double. The Rockets are now 2-3 on the season.

Non-league

North Muskegon 1-3, Coopersville 0-4 – The Norsemen (1-5) earned their first victory of the year in the first game of the doubleheader. North Muskegon was able to scrape across the only run of the game in the second inning after a leadoff double from Ben Gautraud and an RBI groundout by Ben Garcia. Riley Draper picked up the victory for the Norse, going the distance while only giving up two singles. In Game 2, Coopersville used a late inning comeback to steal the win, due in part to Norse errors. Garcia and Brighton Schofield both picked up RBIs for North Muskegon.
