The Muskegon Catholic girls soccer team earned a spot in the Division 4 district semifinals with a hard fought 3-2 victory over North Muskegon on Tuesday.LSJ Logo incert

The Norse jumped out to an early lead with a goal by Summer Patricio. The Crusaders responded with a goal by Molly Conroy with an assist from Hailee McKenna to go into halftime tied 1-1.

Talia Tyler netted a goal for the Crusaders early in the second half to put them up 2-1. Lilli Conroy extended the lead to 3-1 midway through the half.

The Norse scored a late goal to make the score 3-2 but were unable to complete a comeback.

The Crusaders will next face Montague at 5 p.m. on Thursday at Western Michigan Christian High School.

Western Michigan Christian 8, Kent City 0 – Alexys Riksen’s six goals led the Western Michigan Christian girls’ soccer team to an easy victory in the first round of districts.The Warriors improved their record to 10-4-3 on the season. Jessica Kinnucan and Cassie Kingma each added a goal for the Warriors. WMC will play Kent City Algoma Christian in the district semifinals on Thursday. Algoma Christian downed Ravenna on Tuesday.

Montague 1, Fruitport Calvary Christian 0Paige Swanson scored the lone goal in the game with under ten minutes left in regulation. Goalkeeper Katie Webster, who stopped all eleven shots she faced, was credited with an assist on the Swanson goal. Webster booted the ball just across midfield to Swanson, who took it and outran defenders before finding the back of the net on a low shot. Montague moves on to face Muskegon Catholic at 5 p.m. on Thursday at West Michigan Christian High School.

Division 4 at Hart

Hart 2, Big Rapids Crossroads 0 – The Pirates are moving on in the Division 4 districts  after a dominating performance on Tuesday. Hart went into halftime leading 1-0 after a Brooke Hodges goal off an assist from Lauren Hegedus. Hart’s Anna Drenth added a goal in the second half with an assist from Nichole Jorisssen. The Pirates ended the game outshooting Big Rapids Crossroads 20-1. Hart will host Maple City Glen Lake on Thursday in the district semifinals.
