The North Muskegon and Ludington girls tennis teams both qualified for the Division 4 state finals by tying for the championship in their respective regional tournaments on Thursday.LSJ Logo incert

The Division 4 finals will be in Holland on May 29-30.

North Muskegon tied Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian for the regional title at Grand Rapids South Christian High School with 24 points. South Christian was third with 23 points and also qualified for state.

Flight champions for the Norse were Brittany Bailey (No. 2 singles) and Paige Twining (No. singles).

North Muskegon also piled up team points by having runner-up teams in all four doubles flights. They were Molly Huisingh and Lauren Bliss (No. 1 doubles), Tess Wilson and Mary Hoopes (No. 2 doubles), Madeline Huisingh and Hannah Knight (No. 3 doubles) and Lauren Golden and Tori Larsen (No. 4 doubles).

Meanwhile, Ludington tied host Traverse City St. Francis for the title of another Division 4 regional. Both teams ended up with 27 points. Harbor Springs also qualified for state by finishing third with 18 points.

Ludington gained an edge on the field by sweeping the championship in all four doubles flights.

Winning titles for the Orioles were Stephanie Kelly and Olivia Laman (No. 1 doubles), Julia Maltbie and Claire Flewelling (No. 2 doubles), Emily Markham and Megan Scott (No. 3 doubles) and Erin Maltbie and Kamryn Wallace (No. 4 doubles).

Ludington’s flight runners-up were Lauren Markham (No. 2 singles), Kelsey Wallace (No. 3 singles), and Kennedi Killips (No. 4 singles).
