FRUITPORT – The Fruitport boys and Reeths-Puffer girls track teams repeated as champions Friday at the Greater Muskegon Athletic Association City Track and Field Championships.

LSJ Logo incertFruitport, which hosted the tournament, outdistanced runner-up Mona Shores in the boys competition, 124-96.

Taking third was Reeths-Puffer with 51, followed by Western Michigan Christian (49), Orchard View (43.5), Whitehall (41.5), Ravenna (40), Oakridge (25), North Muskegon (17), Muskegon (15), Muskegon Catholic (13) and Montague (12).

Event winners for the Fruitport were the 4×800 meter relay team (Noah Hendricks, Mitchell Johnson, Kody Brooks, Aaron King) with a time of 8:29.95, Hendricks in the 800 meter run (2:03.01), and Nic Kramer in discus (156-01).

The Trojans bulked up on points by finishing in the top six in 13 other events.

Runners-up for Fruitport were Aaron King in the 800 meter run, Hendricks in the 1600 meter run, Chris Kramer in the 300 meter hurdles, Bailey Lynn in the pole vault, and Alec Stanley in shot put and discus.

“Our kids have heart, they fight, the fight for everything,” said Fruitport Coach Chad Brandow. “It takes a team to win and that’s what we have.”

Mona Shores’ Darece Roberson captured first place in two events – the 100 meter dash (11.09) and the long jump (11-06).

In the girls meet, Reeths-Puffer dominated the competition by winning eight events.

The Rockets piled up 156 points, followed by Mona Shores (79), Whitehall (70), Montague (51), Orchard View (40), Fruitport (30), Muskegon (27), Oakridge (23), North Muskegon (21), Ravenna (16) and Western Michigan Christian (12).

One Rocket who had a great day was Maryssa Depies, who set a new city meet record in the 3200-meter race with a time of 11:14.81. She also won the 1600-meter race.

Reeths-Puffer’s Camaryia Williams took top honors in the long jump (17-00.5) and the 300 meter hurdles (47.39).

The Rockets also got first-place finishes from the 4×400 relay team (Melissa Powell, Grace Sweet, Lexi Fortenberry, Camaryia Williams, 4:22.28), the 4×800 relay team (Kendra Irvine, Lilah Parker, Jayme Brantsen and Depies, 10:17.01 ) and Chloe Fox in the high jump (5-0).

Reeths-Puffer ‘s Emily Stong tied for first in the pole vault (9-0).

The Rockets compiled team points with top six finishers in nine other events, including runners-up in six.

Taking second for Reeths-Puffer were Fortenberry in the 400 meter dash, Brantsen in the 800 meter run, Brooke Larabee in shot put, Ahmad Aisha in discus, the 4×100 relay team (Bayroni Lopez, Kaley Johnson, Riley Jacobs and Ariana Burt) and the 4×200 relay team (Fortenberry, Williams, Powell and Burt).
