Two Muskegon Community College wrestlers finished near the top of their respective weight classes on Saturday at the Concordia University Open in Mequon, Wisconsin.

TJ Barnes had the best day for the Jayhawks, finishing third in the 157-pound weight class. Tyler Blagg took took fifth in the 184-pound weight class.

Blagg was also named the MCC Wrestler of the Week.

Also finishing with winning records for MCC were Devan Richter (174), Jonathon Morris (285) and LaVonte Perdue (285).

The Concordia Open is a tough event which included teams in the top 20 in national junior college Division II and III rankings.

“We like to go to this tournament to get some tough competition,” said MCC Coach James Tietema. “It makes the kids tougher and we get exposed to college coaches and wrestlers we don’t see any other time of the year.”

The Jayhawks will compete in the Niagara County Community College Duals and Open Dec. 4-5.
