Islanders 4, Red Wings 1 – The New York Islanders snapped the Red Wings five-game unbeaten streak with a victory on Monday afternoon.
Brock Nelson and Ryan Strome paced the Islanders with a goal and an assist each, while Johnny Boychuk chipped in with two assists.
The Red Wings lone goal was scored by Pavel Datsyuk at the 9:31 mark of the third period. Gustav Nyquist picked up the lone assist on the tally.
Detroit’s goaltender Jimmy Howard, who has not won a game since early December, continued his struggles allowing four goals on 32 shots.
The Red Wings are now 29-19-9 on the season, good for 67 points and second place in the Atlantic Division. They are four points ahead of Pittsburgh for the final playoff spot.
Detroit will travel to take on the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night.
