Avalanche 3, Red Wings 2 (SO) – The Colorado Avalanche snapped the Red Wings three-game winning streaking, defeating Detroit in a shootout on Friday night.
The Avalanche outscored Detroit 2-1 in the shootout on goals from Nathan MacKinnon and Blake Comeau.
Comeau, who scored the game-winning shootout goal, tallied a goal in the third period for the Avalanche. Matt Duchene also added a goal.
The Red Wings had a shootout and regulation goal from Pavel Datsyuk, while Justin Abdelkader chipped in with two assists.
Detroit’s goaltender Petr Mrazek took the loss in the shootout, stopping 19 of 21 shots during overtime and regulation play.
The Red Wings are now 28-18-9 on the season, good for 65 points and second place in the Atlantic Division. They are four points ahead of the New Jersey Devils for the final playoff spot.
Detroit will closed its five-game home stand on Sunday afternoon against the Boston Bruins.
