The Muskegon Heights boys basketball squad continued its strong season with a 48-33 win over Kent City in the Class C district finals on Friday night at Ravenna High School.

LSJ Logo incertKent City, which also ended its season last year against Muskegon Heights, ended with 14-8 record.

The Tigers led by five points at halftime and turned up the defensive intensity during the second half to pull away.

“(In) the second half we got into transition, forced some turnovers and we got the lead,” Tigers coach Dale Stewart said.

Kent City coach Dave Inglis agreed that turnovers really hurt his team.

“What killed us was turnovers in the second half,” he said. “Our live ball turnovers led to their fast breaks and stretched their lead out in the second half.”

Anthony Jones led Muskegon Heights with 16 points, while Anthony Gordon scored nine.

Kent City was led by Chase Freeland with 13 points.

Muskegon Heights (18-3) will play Shelby at NorthPointe Christian in the Class C regional semifinals on Monday.
