Muskegon High School girls basketball standout Mardrekia Cook finished second in the voting for the 2016 Miss Basketball Award, which goes to the top senior player in Michigan.LSJ Logo incert

Cook finished with 2,900 points in a ballot of the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Kysre Gondrezick of Benton Harbor won the award, collecting 4,887 points.

Cook, who is committed to play at Michigan State next sesaon, averaged 23 points and 15 rebounds per game this season. She also surpassed the 1,000-point career scoring mark.

Muskegon boys standouts Deshaun Thrower and Deyonta Davis won the Mr. Basketball award in 2014 and 2015, respectively.
