Morgan Engelsman and Alexis Carpenter turned in brilliant pitching performances Tuesday, leading the Muskegon Community College softball team to a doubleheader sweep of Jackson College in MCCAA conference action.LSJ Logo incert

The Jayhawks are now 23-5 overall and 9-1 in conference play.

The Jayhawks captured the opener 1-0. Engelsman, who is now 8-0 on the season, struck out 17 batters in eight innings and only allowed five hits and no walks.

MCC scored the lone run of the game on a walk-off single by Carrie Mesman in the bottom of the eighth. Mesman finished with two of the four Jayhawk hits.

MCC won the nightcap 2-0. Carpenter pitched a four-hit shutout while strikingĀ out five and walking none. She improved her record to 5-2 on the season.

McKenzie Butgereit knocked in both runs for MCC with a single in the fifth inning and a double in the sixth. Katie Hendrickson also had two hits for the Jayhawks.
