Spring Lake girls softball team goes 4-0 at Lakeshore Grand Slam event

The Spring Lake girls softball team posted a 4-0 record on Saturday to capture the title of the Lakeshore Grand Slam Softball tournament at Softball World.LSJ Logo incert

The Lakers defeated Zeeland West 17-7 in the championship game in five innings.

The Lakers also defeated Coopersville 9-8 in extra innings, Alma 11-3, and Wayland 5-4.

Madelyn Nelson led the Lakers on the day with 10 hits, including a home run, and eight runs scored. Jenna Core had a pair of homers and six RBIs.

Linsey Paggeot added eight hits and scored seven runs, Ann Marie Galloway had eight hits and scored four runs while Lauren Hellman had seven hits and scored 6 runs.

Leah Vaughan had five hits on the day and picked up two pitching victories while striking out 15.

Lauren Somers also had two pitching victories, including one in the championship game, while striking out 11 on the day.

Allendale defeated Wayland 10-6 in the third place game, Coopersville beat Forest Hills Eastern 4-3 in the fifth-place game, and Alma defeated Whitehall 7-3 in the seventh-place game.
