The West Michigan Whitecaps (6-5) recorded their first home win of the season, taking down the first-place Lake County Captains at Fifth Third Ballpark on Monday night.

LSJ Logo incertThe Whitecaps scored four in the fifth inning and five in the fifth frame to lead them to a 9-3 victory.

Lake County jumped out to a narrow 1-0 lead in the second inning behind an RBI-double by Nathan Winfrey.

The Whitecaps answered in the fourth inning as Jose Azocar and Arvicent Perez hit back-to-back RBI-triples to highlight a four-run frame.

West Michigan continued to pour on the offense with five runs in the sixth inning highlighted by an RBI double from Cam Gibson.

Whitecaps’ pitcher Eudis Idrogo (1-1) lasted six innings, giving up one run en route to his first win of the season.

Will Allen and Azocar both finished 2-for-4 with two runs apiece to lead the way for the Whitecaps, while Derek Hill, Brett Pirtle and Steven Fuentes chipped in with an RBI each.

West Michigan will continue its three-game series with the Captains on Tuesday night at 6:35 p.m.
