Fruitport’s varsity soccer squad rolled into Saturday’s Division 2 district championship game with a convincing 8-0 victory over host Sparta on Thursday. LSJ Logo incert

The Trojans jumped out to a 4-0 halftime lead behind three goals from Emily Winicki and one from Isabelle Raven. Fruitport started quick in the second half as well, scoring three goals in the first 6 minutes as Emily Visscher, Jaydie Hanks, and Jensyn Stanberry found the back of the net.

The Trojans continued to control play and Trisha Schlegel scored the final goal to complete the mercy-shortened game.

Winicki and Stanberry each had two assists to lead the Trojans, while Visscher, Hanks, Raven, Kelsie Schultz and August Lee tallied one each.

Fruitport outshot Sparta 40-4. Goalies Marisa Carmean had three saves, while Morgan Green had one save.

Fruitport squares off against rival Spring Lake for the district title on Saturday at 11 a.m., at Sparta.
