Royals 3, Tigers 1 – The Tiger bats remained cold in Monday night’s loss to the Kansas City Royals.
Detroit managed to score only one run on six hits and lost another player to the current injury bug that has slowed the Tigers success in the recent week.
Miguel Cabrera left the game with a bicep injury and is currently listed as a day-to-day.
The Royals opened the scoring in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Eric Hosmer to take a 1-0 lead.
Kansas City added to its lead in the sixth on an RBI bunt single from Raul Mondesi.
The Tigers scored their lone run on a solo homer from J.D. Martinez in the seventh to cut their deficit to 2-1 before the Royals added a run in the ninth.
Detroit’s starting pitcher Daniel Norris lost his first game of the season, allowing one earned run on six hits in 5 1/3 innings.
The Tigers are now 63-55 on the season, good for second place in the American League Central Division behind the first-place Cleveland Indians. They are two games back of the Boston Red Sox for the final playoff spot.
Detroit will look to even the series with a win on Tuesday night against the Royals.
