White Sox 6, Tigers 3 – The Chicago White Sox snapped the Tigers winning streak and avoided the sweep with a win on Thursday afternoon.

LSJ Logo incertChicago opened the scoring with a run in the first inning before Tigers’ leadoff hitter Ian Kinsler tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the first with a home run.

The White Sox responded with five runs in the second inning to take a 6-1 advantage.

Detroit cut its deficit to three runs with a solo homer by Miguel Cabrera in the seventh and an RBI single from Tyler Collins in the eighth, but failed to complete the comeback.Eye on the D

Chicago was led by Jose Abreu and Avisail Garcia with a home run each while Justin Morneau and Adam Eaton chipped in with two hits.

The Tigers were paced in a losing effort by Cabrera, J.D. Martinez and Justin Upton with two hits apiece.

Detroit’s starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann struggled in his return from the disabled list, allowing six runs on six hits in 1 2/3 innings.

The Tigers are now 59-49 on the season, good for second place in the American League Central Division behind the first-place Cleveland Indians. They are tied for the final playoff spot with the Boston Red Sox.

Detroit will open a three-game weekend home series with the New York Mets starting on Friday night.
