Lansing took a 4-0 lead in the third inning and held it for most of the contest.

The Whitecaps made things interesting in the ninth inning when Brett Pirtle launched a run-scoring double to right-center field before Arvicent Perez scored Pirtle with an RBI-single.

The base hit by Perez sent the potential tying run to the plate in Jose Azocar, who popped out to right field to end the contest and send the Whitecaps to their third straight loss, and seventh straight against the Lugnuts.

The Whitecaps fell to 60-51 overall and 21-23 in the second half standings. Perez led the ‘Caps at the plate by going 2-for-4 with an RBI in a losing cause.
