The West Michigan Whitecaps ended their series with Lake County on Tuesday with a 3-1 victory, then opened up their series with Dayton by sweeping a doubleheader on Wednesday, 4-1 and 3-2 at Fifth Third Ballpark.LSJ Logo incert

On Tuesday, Will Maddox led the Whitecaps offense with two RBI singles while Spenser Watkins picked up his fourth win of the season. Watkins pitched 7 1/3 innings while allowing one unearned run and striking out eight.

In Game 1 on Wednesday, Whitecaps pitcher Eudis Idrogo took a perfect game into the sixth inning before allowing a Dragon to reach base.

After Dayton tied the game 1-1 in the top of the sixth, West Michigan scored three runs in the home half to pull away for the victory.

In Game 2, West Michigan used a two-run seventh inning to walk-off with the victory in the seven-inning contest. Brett Pirtle scored on a wild pitch to end the game.

West Michigan’s Will Allen led all hitters in the doubleheader with two hits and two RBIs between the two games.
