The Western Michigan Christian volleyball team hosted the fourth annual Class C Warrior Showdown tournament on Saturday, featuring some of the top Class C high school teams in the state.LSJ Logo incert

Bronson, which won the state title last year, won the tournament, defeating Kalamazoo Christian in the finals.

The WMC squad had a hot and cold day playing in its home gym.

The Warriors lost to Ravenna, Morley-Stanwood and Laingsburg in pool play, but then recovered to win the Silver Bracket, which involves the lower four teams from pool play.

WMC beat Holton 25-22 and 25-23 and Grand Rapids Covenant Christian 25-23, 25-19 in Silver Bracket play.

Cassie Kingma led the Warriors on the day with 50 kills while Jesse Eekhoff added 24. Ashley Sandin had 23 service points, including eight aces, and 116 assists. Eekhoff blocked nine shots while Haylee Moser had 52 digs.

Holton had a rough day in the tournament. Besides falling to WMC, the Red Devils lost to Covenant Christian, Traverse City St. Francis and Bronson.

Mikaela Baker led the Red Devils with 17 kills while Karlee Bates had 10. Shelbey Younts served seven aces and had 30 assists while Dani Tanner had 10 digs.
