Twins 8, Tigers 1 – The Minnesota Twins pounded the Tigers on Tuesday night.

LSJ Logo incertThe Twins opened the scoring with two runs in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.

Detroit responded in the bottom of the first with its lone run of the game on an RBI single from Miguel Cabrera.

Minnesota scored the final six runs in the contest, scoring three in the third, two in the fourth and one in the ninth.

The Twins were paced by Jorge Polanco with a double, home run and four RBIs while Brian Dozier and Kennys Vargas chipped in with three hits apiece.Eye on the D

Minnesota’s starting pitcher Kyle Gibson tossed eight innings, allowing just one run on five hits to pick up the victory.

Detroit’s starting pitcher Matt Boyd took the loss, allowing seven runs on eight hits in 3 2/3 innings.

The Tigers are now 77-67 on the season, good for second place in the American League Central Division behind the Cleveland Indians. They are now one and a half games behind the Baltimore Orioles for the final playoff spot.

Detroit will look to bounce back with a win in Game 3 of the four-game set on Wednesday night.
