Detroit sports glance: Red Wings blow a pair of two goal leads, fall to Lightning

Lightning 6, Red Wings 4 – The Red Wings opened their season with a loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night.

LSJ Logo incertDetroit jumped out to 2-0 lead after the first period and led 3-2 at the second intermission, before allowing four third period goals by the Lightning.

The Red Wings were led in a losing effort by newcomer Thomas Vanek with two goals while Frans Nielsen added a goal and an assist in his first game with Detroit.

Detroit’s goaltender Petr Mrazek took the loss, stopping 30 of 35 Tampa Bay shots.

The Red Wings will look to pick up their first win on Saturday night against the Florida Panthers on the road.
