Muskegon Lumberjacks goaltender Keith Petruzzelli’s 41-save performance kept his team in the game during Saturday night’s rematch against the Sioux City Musketeers.
But the Lumberjacks failed to put the puck in the net and fell 2-0 to the host Musketeers at the Tyson Event Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
The victory completed a two-night sweep for the Musketeers over the Lumberjacks. Sioux City has now won nine games in a row.
Muskegon fell to 11-7 on the season and from second to third place in the USHL’s Eastern Conference.
The Lumberjacks, who were shut out for the first time this season, will look to salvage a win out west on Sunday against the Omaha Lancers. Faceoff will be at 6:05 p.m. EST.
The Musketeers opened the scoring on a power play goal from Jacob Wilson at the 10:28 mark of the first period.
Eeli Tolvanen scored an empty-net goal for Sioux City with 50 seconds remaining in the game to put the game on ice.
Sioux City outshot the Lumberjacks by a 43-22 margin. Musketeers’ goaltender Matiss Kivlenieks stopped all 22 Muskegon shots to pick up the shutout victory.
