Lakes 8 boys hoops: MCC gets first win; Ludington, Heights register victories

The Muskegon Catholic boys basketball team broke into the victory column on Friday, downing Manistee 56-43 on Friday in a Lakes 8 Conference matchup.

Nick Morgenstern paced the Crusaders with 17 points and eight rebounds.

LaTommy Scott added 12 points and five steals for MCC while freshman Cameron Martinez added 10 points, six assists and six steals.

LUDINGTON 66, WESTERN MICHIGAN CHRISTIAN 30 – Three players scored in double figures to lead the Orioles to their first win of the season. Sam LaDuke led the way with 15 points and 10 steals, Jared Collins scored 12 and Noah Laman netted 10 points and grabbed six rebounds. Daniel Ray scored seven points to lead the Warriors while Dylan Mines added six.

MUSKEGON HEIGHTS 81, ORCHARD VIEW 34 – Twin brothers Antoine and Anthony Jones led the charge for the Tigers in their season opener. Antoine scored 19 points while Anthony netted 17. Joe Moore added 13 points for Muskegon Heights. Matt Crigejan scored 11 points for Orchard View while Derek Penell had seven.
