The Reeths-Puffer boys basketball squad ended its long 35-game losing streak on Friday night.

The Rockets, who posted an 0-21 record last season and hadn’t won since the 2014-15 season, held on for a 47-45 victory over Greenville in a non-league game on their home court.

“We preached that it would take a lot of hard work,” said R-P second-year Coach Lance Johnson, who picked up his first victory with the Rockets. “It was all about continuous ball pressure, and the guys worked extremely hard.”

The Rockets led 10-5 after the first quarter, 24-16 at halftime and had a 33-30 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

Reeths-Puffer, which made only one of its final six free throws, nursed a late lead down the stretch.

The Yellowjackets outscored Reeths-Puffer 15-13 during the fourth quarter, but the Rockets managed to hang on to their slim advantage.

Sophomore Carter Fulton paced the Rockets with 15 points, including 11 in the first half, while Emcee Williams added 10.

Reeths-Puffer’s Jalen Williams and David McHugh contributed seven points apiece while Gary Humphries III grabbed 10 rebounds.
