The Western Michigan Christian boys basketball team stung host North Muskegon 53-48 on Wednesday night.

Nolan Fairfield put the Warriors up 50-46 with a minute remaining on a short runner through the lane, thenĀ  Tyler VanBeek sank a pair of free throws to seal the WMC win.

WMC led 18-15 after the first quarter but fell behind 31-27 at halftime, and trailed North Muskegon 38-36 going into the final quarter.

“Our kids played very hard the entire game,” said first-year WMC coach Kurt Gruppen. “We didn’t get rattled when North Muskegon went on a run. I was proud of our effort and execution down the stretch.”

WMC helped its own cause with 10 3-pointers. Daniel Ray led the Warriors with 16 points, including 11 in the first half. Evan Fles stepped up with 13 points while Dylan Mines, Garrett Kraker, Chance Larson and Fairfield each finished with six points.

North Muskegon’s Riley Fairfield led all scores with 20 points and Vernonell Smith finished with 16.
