The Spring Lake boys basketball squad fell short in a back-and-forth battle on Tuesday, falling 55-52 to Grand Rapids Catholic Central in O-K Blue Conference action.

The Lakers (5-2, 0-1) led by two points after the first quarter, trailed 24-20 at halftime and then led 40-36 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Cougars outscored Spring Lake by a 19-12 margin down the stretch to seal the victory.

Spring Lake junior Sam Johnson led all scorers with 15 points while Jack Van Wingen added 14 and Griffin Lorimer chipped in 11.

O-K BLACK

JENISON 85, MONA SHORES 55 – A slow first quarter doomed the Sailors against Jenison in an O-K Black Conference game. Mona Shores fell behind 22-4 after one quarter and never recovered. The Sailors are now 0-5 on the year. Jarvis Walker led Mona Shores with 14 points while James Gilbert added 11 and DeQuarius Cooper contributed 10.

KENOWA HILLS 54, REETHS-PUFFER 44 – Carter Fulton and Emcee Williams each had 12 points for the Rockets, who remain winless in O-K Black action.

MUSKEGON 85, FRUITPORT 14 – The Big Reds had 11 different players score points in the conference matchup. Markell Jackson led the way with 15 points while Sam Cornett had 13. Muskegon (6-0, 2-0) led 60-9 at halftime. Cameron Oleen led the Trojans (0-6, 0-2) with eight points and eight rebounds.

NON-LEAGUE

KENT CITY 71, RAVENNA 47 – The Eagles went into halftime leading by 18 points and never let the game get close. Fraser Wilson had a team-high 18 points for Kent City while Eli Carlson and Jase Dailey had 14 and 10 points, respectively. Kent City improved to 5-2 on the season. Jared Broton had eight points for Ravenna, which dropped to 3-4.

NORTH MUSKEGON 65, SAUGATUCK 47 – Riley Fairfield pumped in 30 points and had five assists for the Norse. Vernonell Smith added 12 points and six rebounds for the winners while Thomas Montgomery had 11 rebounds and four assists. North Muskegon improved to 4-3 on the season.
