The nationally-ranked Muskegon Community College men’s basketball team let a halftime lead slip away and lost to Grand Rapids Community College 82-68 on Friday.

Kyle Ervin Jr. hit a layup as time expired in the first half, giving MCC a 37-34 edge at halftime. But GRCC got hot in the second half, shooting 56 percent overall from the floor – including 50 percent from 3-point range – to surge ahead for the victory.

The Jayhawks only made 26 percent of their shots in the second half. They fell to 14-5 overall on the season and 8-2 in conference play.

“We were just bad in every aspect tonight,” said MCC Coach Dave Schlump. “We didn’t do anything well. Give all the credit to (GRCC) Coach Bronkema and his kids. They played very well tonight and they were the better team tonight.”

Ricarri Stimage paced MCC with 19 points, Ervin finished with 14 while Sergio Diaz had 12.
