The Mona Shores hockey team used a powerful first period to pick up a 4-1 regional final victory over Marquette on Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, the Sailors advance to play Ada Forest Hills Eastern in the Division 2 state quarterfinals at Otsego County Sportsplex in Gaylord on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The scoring started only 23 seconds into the game Saturday when Hunter Meyers found the back of the net off an assist from Brandon Ledyard to give Mona Shores a 1-0 lead.

Only 24 seconds later, Mona Shores increased its lead to 2-0 off a goal from Zac Cuthbertson who was assisted by Meyers.

The final first period Sailor goal came 11:35 into the period when Ledyard took his turn finding the back of the net off a Nick Nawrocki assist to make the score 3-0 in favor of Mona Shores.

Marquette made the score 3-1 with a goal from Dylan Sibilsky at the 16:52 mark in the first period.

The final goal of the game came from Ledyard once again when he found the net 20 seconds into the third period. Spencer Anderson and Isaiah Bathrick each picked up assists on the goal.
