The Muskegon Community College women’s basketball team hit the 20-win mark in its final game of the regular season on Wednesday.

The Jayhawks downed Ancilla College 63-58 on the road to improve to 20-6 overall on the season. They finished with a 14-4 league record and took third place in the MCCAA Western Conference.

MCC relied on balanced scoring to pull out the win. Samantha Taylor led the way with 14 points, Kalisa Williams added 12, Haven Johnston scored 11 and Jena’a Matthews had 10.

Matthews also had 13 rebounds while Bailey Freeland had an all-round good night with nine points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists.

“Twenty wins in a season is tough for a lot of teams, especially in this conference,” said MCC Coach Amanda Parker, whose team won despite having only eight healthy players. “So kudos to this team for battling all season long and showing what they are truly capable of. However, we are not done yet.

“We are still looking to put together four solid quarters with no letdowns, which next week would be a good time for that to happen.”

The Jayhawks will open regional tournament play on Tuesday at home against Lansing Community College at 5:30 p.m.
