The Shelby baseball team gave Coach Brian Wright a special gift in his 1,000th career game on Tuesday, beating Montague 3-2 in the nightcap of a West Michigan Conference doubleheader.

The Tigers, now 1-2 overall and 1-1 in league play, got a complete game out of pitcher Jonah Kelley, who scattered five hits and struck out three Wildcats. Matt Felt recorded two hits for Shelby.

Montague, 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the league, took the opener 2-1 in a pitching dual.

Dylan Stever earned the win on the mound for the Wildcats, pitching three innings of effective relief after starter Luke Marsh tossed four innings of no-hit ball with seven strikeouts.

Jake Lankfer took the loss for Shelby, despite pitching seven innings and only giving up two hits while striking out four.
