The Spring Lake softball team swept Calvin Christian on Friday in a battle of state-ranked teams.

Spring Lake is ranked eighth in Division 2 while Calvin Christian is ranked sixth in Division 3.

The Lakers won the opener 5-3 in a pitcher’s dual between Leah Vaughan of Spring Lake and Kaliegh Whitcomb of Calvin Christian.

Vaughan got the win, striking out 11 and scattering six hits, while Whitcomb took the loss, striking out nine. Calvin Christian scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings before Spring Lake pushed across two runs in the eighth for the win.

Lauren Hellman, Madelyn Nelson, Molly Poole and Leah Vaughan each had two hits for the Lakers.

Spring Lake completed the sweep with a 15-3 win in Game 2. The Lakers scored early and often in the five-inning victory.

Nelson, Linsey Paggeot and Ann Marie Galloway all had three hits for the Lakers while Lauren Somers and Jenna Core each added two. Somers was the winning pitcher.

Spring Lake is now 12-2 on the season.
