The West Michigan Whitecaps fell 2-1 on Tuesday night to Fort Wayne after taking a 1-0 lead into the ninth innings.

Cam Gibson scored the lone West Michigan run in the top of the eighth inning when he scored on a Jacob Robson double.

That lead held until the bottom of the ninth when Hudson Potts scored for Fort Wayne on a double by Fernando Tatis Jr.

With the bases loaded and one out in the inning, Rod Boykin hit a game winning walk off single that scored Tatis.

Cole Baumi and Robson each had two hits to lead the West Michigan offense while starter Gregory Soto threw six shutout innings, giving up two hits and striking out five batters.

Bryan Garcia picked up the loss, blowing his second save of the season.

The Whitecaps are now 6-6 overall on the year.
