Fremont’s varsity baseball team tried to rally from a 6-0 deficit against Cedar Springs on Wednesday, but the Packers came up a little short in a 7-5 setback.

The Redhawks scored one run in the opening inning and five in the fourth to build a commanding lead. Fremont fought back in the bottom of the fifth with five runs of its own, but the Packers were kept in check during the final two innings by Cedar Springs’ pitcher Nick Campione.

Campione tossed the contest’s final 2 ⅔ innings and allowed just two hits and struck out three.

Kyle Cox took the loss on the mound for Fremont, as he allowed six runs and eight hits in four innings of work. He was relieved by Zane Stroven and Matt Yager.

Cooper Kukal had three hits and two RBIs to pace the Packers, while Cortland Carson and Calvin Miller each had a hit and RBI.
