The West Michigan Whitecaps winning streak came to an end on Saturday with a 5-2 loss at Dayton.

West Michigan had won its previous seven games before Saturday.

With the loss, the Whitecaps now sit at 33-15 on the year, a game ahead of Dayton for first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division.

Starting pitcher Gregory Soto took his first loss of the season, allowing five runs on eight hits while also striking out five.

Cole Bauml led the Whitecap offense with two hits while Drew Longley and Cam Gibson each had an RBI.

West Michigan will continue its series at Dayton on Sunday at 7 p.m.
