The home run ball killed the West Michigan Whitecaps on Tuesday in a 8-5 loss in Midland to the Great Lakes Loons.

West Michigan holds a 34-17 record and remains one game ahead of Dayton for first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division.

After jumping out to a 4-1 lead over Great Lakes, West Michigan surrendered four home runs to Great Lakes which led to the eventual loss.

Blaise Salter and Josh Lester each had RBI singles while Cam Gibson had a two run home run to lead the Whitecap offense.

Starting pitcher Alfred Gutierrez allowed all eight Great Lakes runs, and dropped to 4-3 on the season with the loss.

West Michigan will continue its series at Great Lakes on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.
