The West Michigan Whitecaps opened up their series at Burlington with back-to-back wins, taking a 9-6 decision on Friday, following a 10-3 victory on Thursday.

West Michigan has won three in a row and sits at 23-12 on the year, a game behind Dayton for first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division.

Austin Athmann led the Whitecaps offense with four hits and one RBI on Friday, while Josh Lester added three hits and two RBIs of his own.

Starting pitcher Austin Sodders improved his record to 4-0, pitching five innings and surrendering one run on six hits while striking out two.

The Whitecaps will close out their road trip and series with Burlington on Saturday at 6 p.m.
