The West Michigan Whitecaps completed the first half of their season with a 10-1 victory at Lansing on Sunday.

West Michigan finished the first half of the Midwest League schedule with a 45-22 record and won the Eastern Division crown by 5 1/2 games over Dayton. The division title game the Whitecaps an automatic berth to the postseason playoffs in September.

On Sunday, Blaise Salter, Cam Gibson, and Danny Woodrow led the Whitecaps with two hits each. Gibson had four RBIs on the day, including two on a home run in the sixth inning. Anthon Pereira finished the day with three RBIs.

Starting pitcher Spenser Watkins picked up the win, tossing seven innings while allowing one run on three hits. Watkins is now 4-1 on the year with a 1.80 ERA. Reliever John Schreiber tossed the final two innings and struck out four batters.

West Michigan will be off until Thursday, when it begins its second-half schedule following the league All-Star break.
