The West Michigan Whitecaps swept their three game series with Cedar Rapids with a 3-0 victory Friday night in the series finale.

West Michigan is 61-27 overall on the year and 16-5 in the second half.

Derek Hill gave West Michigan a 1-0 lead when he stole third base and advanced home on a throwing error by the Cedar Rapids catcher. Danny Woodrow stole second on the play and advanced to third on the error. Woodrow then scored when Austin Athmann grounded out, giving the Whitecaps a 2-0 lead.

The game remained 2-0 until Cole Bauml singled home Danny Pinero in the third inning to score the final Whitecap run, giving West Michigan a 3-0 lead.

Overall, Bauml and Pinero each led the Whitecap offense with two hits on the night.

Starting pitcher Gregory Soto picked up the win, making his record 8-1 on the season. Soto struck out 11 in six innings while surrendering only three hits. Relief pitcher Eduardo Jimenez picked up his fifth save, pitching a clean ninth inning.

West Michigan will next open up a home three game series with Quad Cities on Saturday at 7 p.m.
