The West Michigan Whitecaps bounced back with a 4-2 victory over Fort Wayne on Thursday evening at Fifth Third Ballpark.

With the victory, West Michigan is now 67-31 on the season and 22-9 in the second half. West Michigan leads the Midwest League Eastern Division second half standings by two games over Fort Wayne.

Starting pitcher Alfred Gutierrez picked up his eighth win of the season to improve to 8-5 on the year, striking out 10 in seven innings while surrendering two runs on four hits.

Relief pitcher John Schreiber picked up his fifth save of the year, striking out four in the final two innings and surrendering one hit.

Five different hitters finished with a hit for West Michigan while Derek Hill, Cole Bauml and Dylan Burdeaux all finished with a RBI.

West Michigan will close out its series with Fort Wayne at home on Friday at 7 p.m.
