The Mona Shores boys’ tennis team kicked off its season with a solid showing at the Grandville Open on Friday.

The Sailors took second place overall, finishing behind Grandville and edging out tough competition from Holland and Caledonia. Mona Shores’ No. 2 doubles combination of Thad Krause and Dustin Hammerle won all three of their matches and their flight championship.

Winning multiple matches for the Sailors were Andrew Swirczek (No. 1 singles), Nick Davis (No. 2 singles) and Austin Grimm (No. 3 singles). The No. 1 doubles team of Connor Belanger and Zach Davis lost two matches in third-set tiebreakers, but also managed a crucial win to help Mona Shores secure second place.
