The Fruitport Trojans came close Friday night, but ended up falling 20-14 to Kenowa Hills in O-K Black Conference football action.

Kenowa Hills opened the scoring with a 46-yard touchdown run by Keegan Benkhardt in the first quarter.

Fruitport pulled ahead 7-6 later in the first on a five-yard TD run by Jakob Carlisle and an extra point kick.

Carlisle completed a 13-yard scoring pass to Jacob Miller, and the PAT kick put the Trojans up 14-6.

Kenowa Hills added a touchdown on a five-yard run by Josh Bergsma in the second quarter.

Fruitport led 14-12 at halftime.

The third quarter was scoreless, before the Knights stole the victory in the fourth when Dylan Mackey scored a five-yard TD and the two-point conversion attempt was good.

Benkhardt led the Knights with 91 yards rushing on 10 attempts.

Carlisle threw for 77 yards and one touchdown while rushing for 51 yards on 20 attempts. Halfback Dominick Colegrove gave the Trojans 126 yards rushing on 27 attempts.

Fruitport’s defense was bolstered by Parker Tawney with 11 tackles and Dallas Rogers with eight tackles, including two sacks.
