Fruitport can’t overcome Zeeland East’s big first quarter, falls 56-14 in nonleague football

Fruitport fell behind early and couldn’t get out of the hole Friday, losing 56-14 to host Zeeland East in O-K Black Conference play.

Zeeland East built a 27-0 lead in the first quarter before the Trojans’ Jakob Carlisle found Hunter Gannon on a 15-yard touchdown pass.

The Chix increased their lead to 48-7 by halftime.

Fruitport’s Blade Williams scored on a 2 yard run in the third quarter to cut the Trojans’ deficit  to 48-14.

The Trojans, now 2-4 on the season, finished with 188 total yards, led by Williams with 64 rushing yards and 104 passing yards from Carlisle.
