The Muskegon Heights football squad kept its winning streak alive by going on the road and beating Ludington 36-27 in Lakes 8 Conference action on Friday.

The Tigers overcame an early 7-0 deficit, scoring on a touchdown pass from Montay Townsend to Jahri Blackshire. Townsend connected with Todd Brewer on the conversion to give Muskegon Heights an 8-7 lead.

Ludington responded with a touchdown to take a 14-8 lead after the first quarter.

Muskegon Heights found the end zone twice in the second quarter on a Terrance Williams two-yard rush and a 52-yard pass to Arlester Sims from Townsend.

The Tigers went into halftime leading 22-21.

Muskegon Heights scored the lone touchdown in the third quarter on a 24-yard completion from JaRomeo Blackshire to Sims. A two-point conversion increased the Tigers’ lead to 30-21 heading into the final quarter.

Jerry Anderson closed out the scoring for the Tigers with a 24-yard pick-six. The Orioles scored the final six points of the contest, but it wasn’t enough.

Anderson led all rushers with eight carries for 112 yards, followed by Townsend with seven carries for 41 yards. Sims paced the Tigers through the air with four catches for 102 yards and two scores, and Anthony Glover had two receptions totaling 69 yards.

Sims and Jahri Blackshire each had five sacks on defense, while Sims also added a fumble recovery.

The Tigers winning streak is now at three games, putting their record at 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the Lakes 8 Conference.

Muskegon Heights will have a tough test at home next week against undefeated Muskegon Catholic Central.
